Peter's Picks with comics and flicks

March 1st, 2014

This month's comic: STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION-THE LAST GENERATION

Published in: November 2008

Published by: IDW comics

The main plot:
The story takes place in an alternate timeline, in which the climax in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country takes a wrong turn. Captain Kirk isn't able to save the president of the Federation from being shot by a Starfleet officer disguised as a Klingon and thus the United Federation of Planets goes to war with the Klingon Empire. After years of war, the Klingons win and conquer Earth so the Federation and Starfleet no longer exist. However, Jean-Luc Picard, instead of being the captain of the Enterprise-D as he should be, leads a resistance against the Klingon Warlord of Earth, Worf. Meanwhile, Will Riker and Geordi LaForge are bringing Data to Picard because Data, instead of being programmed to become more human, is actually programmed to find a weakness in the Klingons rule of Earth. As it turns out, a time traveler from the twenty-ninth century goes back to the events of the Undiscovered Country to stop Kirk from saving the president. Why? because in the future, some sort of problem occurs that causes time itself to stop.
After all the events in this story, The resistance led by Picard manages to go back in time and save the federation while making peace with the Klingons.

My opinion on it:
Don't get me wrong, I love this comic, but there are some ideas that could've made it better. For example, the creators of this comic shouldn't have made Worf a villain. I know he's a Klingon, but he could have been an enemy turned ally. They should've made Gowron the Klingon ruler of Earth. Also a lot of classic characters die in this story. From Drex to Data, too many characters to count die. but other than that, my opinion on this comic is that it is good.

Final thought: PICK!!!

Next week, I'll be reviewing the Hitchcock classic, "THE BIRDS"
